Pirate Bowl on the beach of Hossegor, France…  Jose was living right next to this act of genius while he was learning to surf.  Sponsored by Carhartt, the ship has been moved a couple times for different events.  A few years ago, it was at the center of the world’s biggest metal festival “Hellfest”.  Here are some pics.

Bay Area Art Shows-August 2010

I first heard about this Donut shop in Campbell about a year ago when my buddy, Christine Benjamin, was curating an art show there.  This place has a crazy-themed environment with donut hustling Nurses, strange cereal crusted donut creations, an art gallery and phone booth size music studio with a Fender electric  guitar that can broadcast throughout the store.  Psycho Donuts has built a huge following in the area and hosts lots of community events including Cult Movie Thursdays and a Psycho Zombie Nurse costume contest last halloween.  Check out some donuts.

One day, Luis got bored and started to tattoo himself in the parking lot of Tigard.

Then for breakfast, I took them to Pine State Biscuits in Portland (featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives). This tiny place has seating for about 10 people and always has a line out the door.  The most famous biscuit sandwich they make is the “Reggie Deluxe”.  This heart-stopper is filled with a fried chicken breast, bacon strips, cheddar cheese, a fried egg and topped with choice of veggie-mushroom or sausage gravy.  They also make the McIsley, same as the Reggie, but with Pickles and Honey added. If you are into southern food, this place is worth a visit.

Ted V.-I’m looking for a place to live in Portland, but I’ve redlined about a 5-block radius around Pine State Biscuits because the temptation would be too great.

Steve W.-My wife had the same dish with honey and pickles.  Wow!  I damn near dropped a muffin in my drawers!  That was gooooood.  I am getting that dish next time, and there will be a next time!

Bradley O.-Holy Biscuits Batman!  I think my delicious meal at PSB successfully shortened my lifespan by 5 years.  But boy oh boy, was it worth it! Reggie Deluxe,I know we’ve only just met, but  I’ve developed an unhealthy relationship with you. 

Travis G.-In order to demonstrate how much I like this restaurant, I should post my phone bill. It will contain 3 or so calls from immediately after I took the first bite of my Reggie deluxe, then about 7 more as I ate the sandwich.  I’ve shown the photo that I took of said Reggie deluxe to at least 10 other people. I’ve literally tried to talk friends into visiting Portland specifically so that I can drive down there from Seattle and go to Pine State Biscuits.
